Why B12?

In our day and age, B12 is dearly needed. B12 reserves are diminishing with each generation that goes by and deficiencies are growing at an alarming rate. In truth, almost everyone is deficient in B12 today.

Vinegar is often considered to be a healthy food to include in your diet, especially apple cider vinegar. In truth, vinegar, even the best kind, has a detrimental effect on the body and is best avoided if you are trying to cleanse your body in order to heal a chronic illness, symptom, or condition.

“Vinegar dehydrates the body on a deep, deep organ level, and when you’re cleansing, you don’t want to dehydrate the body. Vinegar preserves poisons, trapping them in your organs—and not so that it can then drive them out of your body. Toxins dehydrate us, as they require an abundance of water to dilute them and eventually flush them out of our cells so they can safely leave our organs without hurting us. Rather than help flush out these toxins, vinegar allows toxins to penetrate our cells and organs because it sucks the water out of cells, and that even drives poisons and toxins deeper into organ tissue.

Picture this: a jar of pickles, with cucumbers sitting in a bath of water and vinegar. If the water in that jar had traces of fluoride, lead, arsenic, pesticides, or any other variety of chemical poison, the vinegar would bind onto those toxins, pushing them deep into the pickles, possibly all the way to the core. That’s how vinegar works. Well, we have water in our blood too. Toxins also float in it, and it’s a good thing that the water is present, because normally, it’s supposed to carry toxins along and flush them out. When we consume vinegar, though, suddenly we’re the jar of pickles, and our organs are the cucumbers getting pickled. The vinegar begins by separating the toxins in our blood from the water clinging to them. This allows the toxins to burrow into organs, glands, and connective tissue—which works precisely against what you’re trying to accomplish on a cleanse. Vinegar also sucks water out of our cells, robbing us of deep hydration reserves in organs such as the liver.

If you’re thinking that apple cider vinegar is exempt from all this vinegar talk, think again. Yes, ACV is more nutritious than other vinegars, because it’s made from apples, which are nutrient-rich. It’s not that much more nutritious than red wine or grape vinegar; grapes hold nutrition just as apples do. All of these fruits are in fermented form, though, and we can’t get away from the truth that no matter the source, vinegar dehydrates the body on a deep, systemic level, causing trouble by keeping poisons inside the body when we’re trying to get rid of them.”

Caffeine (including coffee, matcha, chocolate, black tea, and green tea) has two effects that can impact your health negatively, especially if you are cleansing with the guidance in Medical Medium Cleanse to Heal: Healing Plans for Sufferers of Anxiety, Depression, Acne, Eczema, Lyme, Gut Problems, Brain Fog, Weight Issues, Migraines, Bloating, Vertigo, Psoriasis, Cysts, Fatigue, PCOS, Fibroids, UTI, Endometriosis & Autoimmune in order to heal chronic illnesses, symptoms, and conditions. One, it dehydrates the body. Two, it prompts the adrenal glands to pump unnecessary levels of adrenaline into your bloodstream, causing a variety of compromises to your brain, liver, and kidneys.

Caffeine gives the adrenals a sense of fight or flight without our actual life circumstances being fight or flight. Now, fight or flight is a privilege we hold, an option for when we’re dealing with stress, loss, or confrontation. Fight or flight is the release of complex blends of life-saving hormones from the adrenals, blends that medical research and science don’t yet even comprehend. It’s for when we’re in a time of need and require the ability to think or act fast for survival.

When we consume caffeine, it creates a boy-who-cried-wolf situation. It’s a kid pulling the fire alarm at school when there’s no fire. If you’re consuming caffeine all day long, you’re continually telling your body that there’s a crisis, prompting your adrenals to respond all day long. That can create a numbness. When a real crisis comes, we may not respond appropriately because we’re basically immune to the experience of adrenaline hitting the central nervous system. And the specific blend of adrenaline that fight or flight triggers can be highly toxic to the body because it’s highly acidic and corrosive to the nervous system and organs. This kind of adrenaline release is not meant to be used every day, let alone multiple times a day. It's meant to be used sparingly. Over time, this adrenaline blend can slowly scorch the liver as the organ sponges up the adrenaline to protect you.

Caffeine addiction forces the adrenals to pump a harsh blend of adrenaline through the body for hours and hours. It’s truly unhealthy, and down the road, it’s going to lead to aging, damaged skin, brain fog, severe focus and concentration problems, fatigue, hair loss, and weight gain. These symptoms may not show themselves in someone’s 20s. They tend to surface later in the 30s and 40s. Caffeine feels good. It gets us to get up and go. But we pay a price for relying on caffeine to do that. When something has that much control over your life, it’s not about giving you pleasure anymore. It’s about taking something away that you weren’t even aware was being taken away. Experiencing life without reliance on a stimulant is a positive direction to take for physical and spiritual elevation. Don’t let caffeine be the factor that holds you back.

Aspartame and other Artificial Sweeteners

You’ll find this in diet sodas as well as hidden in flavoring. Aspartame goes into the liver’s deep, inner core and is unique in the way it’s stored in the liver—it tends to injure small blood vessels inside the liver, causing them to atrophy or shrink. Other artificial sweeteners are also highly toxic to the liver.

Citric Acid

Citric acid is very irritating to the linings of the stomach and the intestinal tract, so it can create a lot of inflammation and discomfort if you’re sensitive to it. Citric acid (the additive) is not the same thing as naturally occurring acid in citrus. Try not to confuse the two. Citrus itself is a healing food. The isolated ingredient citric acid, however, is often corn derived. Especially if you’re experiencing any kind of stomach pain, keep an eye out for citric acid on ingredient labels and consider skipping foods that include it.

Monosodium Glutamate (MSG)

MSG typically builds up in your brain, going deep into your brain tissue. It can then cause inflammation and swelling, kill thousands of your brain cells, disrupt electrical impulses, weaken neurotransmitters, burn out neurons, make you feel confused and anxious, and even lead to micro-strokes. It also weakens and injures your central nervous system. MSG is especially harmful if you have an illness that involves your brain or central nervous system. However, there are no circumstances under which it’s good for you. As a result, this is an additive you should always avoid.

The following terms usually mean that MSG is an ingredient: glutamate, hydrolyzed, autolyzed, protease, carrageenan, maltodextrin, sodium caseinate, balsamic vinegar, barley malt, malt extract, yeast extract, brewer’s yeast, corn starch, wheat starch, modified food starch, gelatin, textured protein, whey protein, soy protein, soy sauce, broth, bouillon, stock, and seasoning.

Natural and Artificial Flavors

Any ingredient with a name like natural flavoring is hidden MSG. Natural cherry flavor, natural orange flavor, natural lemon flavor, natural fruit flavor..they’re not just fruit extracts. The same goes for smoke flavor, turkey flavor, beef flavor, natural peppermint flavor, natural maple flavor, natural chocolate flavor, natural vanilla flavor, and so on. (Although pure vanilla extract is safe to use.) Each type of natural flavor potentially contains multiple biohazards and chemical compounds.

Artificial flavors can represent any of thousands of chemicals that were birthed in a lab. Don’t take risks by consuming them.

Nutritional Yeast

Nutritional yeast is an MSG-contaminated ingredient—there’s a reason why it’s so addictive, with people pouring it on to flavor countless foods. It also has the potential to be an irritant to the digestive system and feed bugs such as unproductive bacteria.

Preservatives

If you’re already anti-preservative and take care to buy foods that don’t list them in the ingredients, it doesn’t mean they’re not sneaking into your food. Accountability is reckless as far as preservative labeling goes. Not to mention that there were all those years before you became aware, so your liver had plenty of time to collect different varieties of chemically created preservatives. Your liver could be holding on 
to preservatives from hot dogs you ate decades ago, cotton candy from a fair, a milkshake with imitation fruit flavoring, a purple ice cone…the list is never-ending.

Alcohol

Alcohol is extremely hard on the liver, causing it to become sluggish and stagnant and injuring liver cells. When someone drinks, it hinders the liver’s ability to acknowledge, decipher, extract, and retain the vitamins, minerals, and other helpful materials that are also coming in through the blood. It slows down the liver’s ability to run its over 2,000 chemical functions for the body. (Don’t let this stop you from using hand sanitizer with alcohol in it. Killing off the flu virus or strep from a public bathroom or other germy spot outweighs what your liver’s going to receive from that sanitizing wipe.)

In the case of herbal tinctures, actively seek out alcohol-free versions (avoid the word ethanol, too). You can also refer to my supplement directory of preferred supplements. Formaldehyde

You can be exposed to this troublemaker from so many sources, everywhere from cosmetics to pharmaceuticals to carpets to food. It does what alcohol does to the liver, only much more extreme. It’s also a viral fuel.

As I share in Cleanse to Heal, "By “food wars” I mean arguments between opposed food belief systems. You know the type I mean: the claims that this way of eating is better or even morally superior, while that way of eating is silly or ignorant, all of it rooted in guesswork and ideology, not truth. These battles often get in the way of conversations about cleansing. If we’re kept busy with resentment toward another group, if we’re distracted standing up for our own philosophy while trying to discredit the other side, we’ll miss out on what’s really happening inside the body, and we’ll never take the time to seek out answers.

The most vocal in the food wars are the people who feel the least sick. They’re the ones who have the stamina to fight about plant versus animal protein and whole grain versus grain free and removing fruit or allowing only low-glycemic fruit—and have the stamina to attack anyone who doesn’t fall into their own belief system. In support of their claims, they tend to spout scientific research studies paid for by sources with vested interests in the outcomes, because they are out of touch with the person who’s been to 20 doctors and is still lying in bed with no answers about why they’re sick. Perhaps they’ve experienced small inconsistencies with their health—they’ve had a little less energy here or there, faced mild acne or eczema, dealt with drawn-out rebound times from workouts, maybe had a cold or cough that stuck around a little too long, or dealt with bloating or a minor digestive issue, so they had to go on a round of antibiotics, any of which can get someone thinking about eating better. Somewhere along the way in their diet research process, they became staunch supporters of a belief system, enough to take up the cause and attack the other side.

Meanwhile, all sides in the food wars are still sick. What the arguments ignore is that millions are still struggling, whether from thyroid disorders, ME/CFS, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), eczema, psoriasis, acne, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, crippling anxiety or depression, or any of hundreds of other diagnoses or non-diagnoses. Just like in any war on this planet, the smog of battle distracts from the suffering of those who don’t have the strength to fight."
